The 16th National Conference of Doctoral Students, Post-doctoral Researchers and Young Scholars in the Field of Legal Sciences, organised by the Institute for the State and the Law at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (ISL-BAS), was held on 6 June 2026.

Papers were presented by doctoral students and post-doctoral researchers from the ISL-BAS, Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" and the University of National and World Economy. They covered a wide range of topics in almost all branches of law and looked both to the past (Roman law) and to the future development of law.

For the first time, the participants themselves (through an anonymous survey) chose the most interesting paper of the conference. The informal competition was won by Krasen Valev of the ISL-BAS with a paper entitled "Abuse of Procedural Rights in Interim Relief Proceedings". He examined the manifestations of abuse of procedural rights in interim relief proceedings and presented typical examples of it. He outlined the structural features of the proceedings that create conditions for abuse, as well as the most interesting examples from the case law of the Supreme Court of Cassation in this regard. The presenter argued that the court should monitor and prevent the abuse of procedural rights.

Following peer review, the papers presented at the conference will be published in a collection.
