Acad. Chudomir Hristov Goleminov
(10.03.1930 – 25.12.2013)
The eminent Bulgarian jurist Acad. Chudomir Goleminov was born in Plovdiv. He graduated in law with distinction from Sofia University, after which he won a competition for a doctoral studentship at the Institute for the State and the Law at the BAS. Following a successful defence in 1959, he became a Candidate of Legal Sciences. He had been a research associate at the Institute since 1960, and a professor since 1971. He held a Doctorate of Legal Sciences.
Acad. Goleminov taught civil and commercial law at Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski", at the University of National and World Economy and at Plovdiv University "Paisii Hilendarski". He supervised numerous doctoral students and candidates at the Institute of Legal Sciences at the BAS.
He was the author of more than 300 scholarly works, including 30 monographs, on issues of civil law, the law of obligations, commercial law and private international law.
Acad. Goleminov was Honorary Chair of the Bulgarian Association of Comparative Law; a member of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences; a member of the International Association of Comparative Law (Paris); a member of the University of Birmingham – Institute for European Studies; and a lawyer at the Sofia Bar Association.
He was elected Corresponding Member of the BAS in 1989 and Academician in 1997.
