public discussion on the topic "Protection of Consumer Rights"

The Institute for the State and the Law at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences became a co-organiser of the public discussion on the topic "Protection of Consumer Rights", held on 11 May 2017 on the initiative of the head of the Regional Academic Centre – Kazanlak, Eng. Vladimir Chuchumishev, and under the patronage of the Public Mediator of Kazanlak Municipality, Ms Ginka Shtereva.

The event was also organised in partnership with the European Consumer Centre – Bulgaria.

Kaloyan Moskov, an external doctoral student in the Department of Public Law, delivered a lecture on the topic and actively participated in the discussion that followed.

The plenary hall of the "Museum of the Rose" in Kazanlak was attended by representatives of the Municipal Council, the "Consumer Protection" unit, schoolchildren and citizens.

The event was devoted to topical issues affecting every citizen-consumer: "When may a person benefit from the protection of the Consumer Protection Act and other acts?", "The right of consumers to return goods within 14 days when purchasing online", "The obligations of consumers when purchasing goods and lodging a complaint", as well as "The rights of consumers in air transport within and outside Europe".

The lecturers pointed out the mistakes most frequently made by consumers, as well as ways of avoiding them. The event concluded with a discussion of questions from those present, in which the need for broader awareness of consumers' obligations and rights was noted.
